Literature Ireland and The Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation announce Romanian translator Mihaela Buruiană as the Translator in Residence and look forward to hosting her for the months of October and November 2025.
During her residency, Mihaela Buruiană will work on her translation of The Heart in Winter by Kevin Barry. Mihaela and Kevin will together discuss the process of translating this book at an event on Saturday 8 November at 6pm in Books Upstairs as part of the Dublin Book Festival. Mihaela will also contribute to activities in the MPhil in Literary Translation at Trinity and immerse herself in the local literary and cultural scene.
Mihaela Buruiană
Mihaela Buruiană (Romania) is a literary translator and writer. She has translated over 60 books from English and French, mostly literary fiction, but also children’s literature and non-fiction. Her portfolio includes Irish authors such as Sally Rooney (Normal People, Beautiful World, Where Are You), Naoise Dolan (Exciting Times, The Happy Couple), Maggie O’Farrell (Hamnet, I Am, I Am, I Am, and her children’s books Where Snow Angels Go, When the Stammer Came to Stay, and The Boy Who Lost His Spark), Ferdia Lennon (Glorious Exploits), Kevin Barry (Night Boat to Tangier, and she is currently working on The Heart in Winter).
She published a collection of short stories (Pe cine iubești mai mult?/Whom Do You Love More? – n’autor/Nemira Publishing House, 2023) and contributed to various anthologies. She has recently completed her first novel.
