Literature Ireland & Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, Trinity College Dublin
Literature Ireland and The Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation seek applications for a Literary Translator in Residence. This is an opportunity for a translator working from Irish or English into Romanian to spend October and November 2025 immersing themselves in Dublin’s rich literary and cultural life.
Candidates must be currently working on the translation of a work by a contemporary Irish writer and should ideally have a contract with a publisher. Translators of Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Young Adult and Drama are all welcome to apply.
The residency will be for two months, 1 October - 30 November 2025. Literature Ireland will cover travel, accommodation and living expenses. Accommodation will be provided on campus in Trinity College Dublin. A work space will be provided at the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation.
The successful candidate will be asked to work on their translation-in-progress, to immerse themselves in Dublin’s cultural life, to contribute to activities in the Literary Translation MA at Trinity, and to hold one public event near the end of their stay.
Applications should include:
- A brief overview of the translation to be worked on during the residency. This must be the translation of a work of contemporary Irish literature (in English or Irish) into Romanian
- Current curriculum vitae and two references (including one from a Romanian publishing house)
- A copy of the translation contract with the publishing house
- A sample of the translation-in-progress (approximately 1,000 words of the source text, plus a draft translation)
