Residencies for Writers in Prague

Residencies for Writers in Prague

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, was designated a UNESCO City of Literature in December 2014. To celebrate this, 1– 2 residencies in Prague for writers are being offered. This call is open to writers in UNESCO Cities of Literature only. Each City of Literature will nominate one writer and the City of Literature office in Prague will make the final selection.

The writer who will be selected to represent Dublin UNESCO City of Literature will have a substantial body of published work i.e. at least two books published by reputable publishers. The work may be poetry or prose.

The selection criteria operated by Prague are that a writer should:

• Have an interest in Prague and Czech literature

• Be willing to hold some readings and public discussions in Prague

• Be free to spend October and November 2015 in Prague (period of the residency).

Applications will be considered based on a creative plan and the quality of existing work.

The residency includes flights, accommodation and an, as yet, unspecified stipend.

If you are interested in being considered as Dublin's nominee for this residency, please email your literary biography, a statement of your interest in Prague and Czech literature, and a plan of work for the period of the residency to: Jane Alger, Director, Dublin UNESCO City of Literature jane.alger@dublincity.ie before 24th June 2015.

Please note that applications will only be considered from writers with the stated body of existing published work.
