Bringing Irish Poetry to Chinese Readers

Imagine translating a work of literature into Chinese. Imagine that that work of literature is poetry. Now imagine that you are translating it from the Irish language . . . This is the remarkable achievement being celebrated by Literature Ireland on the 8th of February as part of the Dublin City Chinese New Year Festival.

In 2016, Northern Literature and Art Press published ‘ 蛾子纷落的时刻 ’, the remarkable Chinese translation – completed directly from the Irish – of a selection of poetry by Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill.

Literature Ireland is delighted to host the poet and her translator, Qiu Fangzhe, for a discussion of their work, the joys and challenges of translating poetry between such different languages, and readings in Chinese and Irish.

All are welcome. Seating is limited so early booking is advised. For further information, please email info@literatureireland.com or visit https://www.dublinchinesenewyear.com/event/in-translation-nuala-ni-dhomhnaill-in-conversation-with-qiu-fangzhe/.
