Insurrection is a novel of rebellion and of man's enchantment with it. Bartly Madden is caught up in the Easter Rising through a series of accidents. He joins a small band of insurgents, and as bravery, cowardice, and terror struggle for supremacy, it becomes clear that these individuals are defined not by what they live for, but by what they are prepared to die for.
