Deoraíocht / Exile

Pádraic Ó Conaire

Deoraíocht (Exile) ranks as one of the most colourful and audacious Irish novels ever written. Moving between London and Galway, it depicts the joys and tribulations of the down and out, the flotsam and jetsam of an uncaring society. The author touches on the culture-loss of the Irish diaspora, a theme not without relevance today. Ó Conaire's rattling and quixotic narrative, in all its sweep and detail, its humour and horror, is finely captured in this long overdue English-language translation published by Cló Iar-Chonnachta in 1994.
