The woman turns out to be the ghost of Mary's great-grandmother, come to help her daughter say good-bye to her loved ones and guide her safely out of this world. She enlists Mary and her mother and all four women bundle into the car to embark on an adventurous road trip to the past: one of them is dead, one of them is dying, one of them is driving, and one of them is just starting out.
