Stewart Parker

1941 - 1988

Stewart Parker was born in Belfast in 1941 where he studied Drama at Queen's University. He worked as a pop music critic for The Irish Times and later wrote for radio, television and the stage in Britain. His first stage play, Spokesong, won the 1976 Evening Standard Most Promising Playwright Award, and his 1987 play, Pentecost, won the Harvey's Irish Theatre Award. Plays for radio include The Iceberg and The Kamikaze Ground Staff Reunion Dinner. Stewart Parker died of cancer in London in 1988. High Pop: The Irish Times Columns 1970-76 was published posthumously by Lagan Press in 2008.
