Eugene McCabe

Born in Glasgow of Irish parents, Eugene McCabe has spent most of his life in Ireland on a farm in County Monaghan. He attended University College, Cork, and was recognized as an accomplished playwright, short story writer and novelist. His latest collection of stories is Heaven Lies about Us, published in 2004. McCabe's novel, Death and Nightingales, was published to great critical acclaim in 1992. McCabe has also written two books for children: Cyril: The Quest for an Orphaned Squirrel and Cyril's Woodland Quest. Among his numerous awards are the Irish Life Theatre Award in 1964 for King of the Castle, the Butler Literary Award for Prose from the Irish American Cultural Institute in 2002 and, from the American/Irish Ireland Funds, the 2006 AWB Vincent Literary Award. Eugene McCabe was a member of Aosdána.
