Deirdre Madden

Deirdre Madden is from Toomebridge, Co Antrim, in Northern Ireland. She studied English Literature at Trinity College, Dublin and subsequently completed a masters in creative writing at the University of East Anglia. The Birds of Innocent Wood (Faber & Faber) was awarded the Somerset Maugham Prize. One by One in the Darkness (Faber & Faber) won the Kerry Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize. Madden's first book for children, Snakes' Elbows (Orchard Books), was shortlisted for the 2006 CBI Bisto Book of the Year and won the 2006 Eilís Dillon Award. She has travelled extensively and has lived both in France and Italy. Madden currently lives in Dublin, teaching the MA in creative writing course in Trinity College, Dublin. Recent titles include Molly Fox's Birthday (Faber & Faber) and Time Present and Time Past (Faber & Faber).
