Thomas Kinsella

Irish poet, translator, editor and publisher Thomas Kinsella was born in Dublin in 1928. His first book-length collection, Poems, was published in 1956. Kinsella's most recent publications include A Dublin Documentary (2006), a collection of poems, reminiscences and photographs, Man of War and Belief and Unbelief, both published in 2007. Kinsella's Collected Poems appeared in a revised edition in 2001. He was a director of the Dolmen Press and the revived Cuala Press, and, in 1972, he established the Peppercanister Press, now an imprint of Dedalus Press. As early as 1954, Kinsella began translating classic Irish texts into English, most famously the Irish epic The Táin, published in 1969 with 31 brush drawings by renowned Irish artist, Louis Le Brocquy. Kinsella is the recipient of three Guggenheim Fellowships. In 2007, he was conferred the Freedom of the City of Dublin together with artist Le Brocquy. He divides his time between Ireland and the USA.
