Christine Dwyer Hickey

1960 -

Christine Dwyer Hickey started out as a short story writer who twice won the Listowel Writers’ Week short story competition as well as the prestigious Observer/Penguin short story competition. The first part of a trilogy of novels, The Dancer (1995), was shortlisted for the Kerry Ingredients/Listowel Writers’ Week Book of the Year Award and was followed by The Gambler (1996) and The Gatemaker (2000). Her bestselling novel Tatty (2007) was shortlisted for the Hughes & Hughes Irish Novel of the Year Award and longlisted for the Orange Prize. Last Train from Liguria (2009), set in Mussolini’s Italy and modern Ireland, was also a bestseller and was nominated for the Prix L’Européen de Littérature. Her latest novel The Cold Eye of Heaven (2011) won the Irish Kerry Group Book of the Year in June 2012. Christine Dwyer Hickey lives in Co. Dublin.
